Farm Description

Peshekee River Property for Sale! This 39+/- Acre wooded parcel is located in Spurr Township, in east-central Baraga County, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula! The Peshekee River flows along the NE section of the property. This river is a 31.1-mile-long river. The Peshekee River is stunning, with nature scenery along its banks and the water flowing gracefully down the river which attracts people from near and far. In the foothills of the Huron Mountains, the copper-hued water of this wilderness river flows past towering pines and tangles with rock cuts, boulders, and gravel beds. This river supports many fish species, and is a highly regarded Brook trout river. It is a tributary of Lake Michigamme, and its waters flow via the Michigamme River and the Menominee River to Lake Michigan. Along the western side of the property is another river, which may be a tributary of the Huron River. This river is composed of several major branches and numerous smaller tributaries in northwestern Marquette and northeastern Baraga Counties. These waters flow through woodlands and include picturesque low waterfalls and rapids before flowing into Lake Superior. The Huron River supports 37 species of fish, and is highly regarded for its sport fishing, especially for Steelhead trout. "The Kings of Industry" played in this area - Three generations of descendants of Cyrus McCormick used this area for vacation retreats, and the Gate Way into the 16,850 acre McCormick Wilderness (part of the National Wilderness Preservation System since 1987) is about 4 miles southeast of this parcel! This is also the entrance into 3 miles of the "North County Trail" which, when completed, will be a 4,000 mile National Scenic Trail from New York to North Dakota. This unspoiled forest area is studded with lakes, and is near the headwaters of the Dead River, Huron River, Peshekee River, and the Yellow Dog River. The diverse ecological landscape serves as habitat for a variety of mammals and birds. Beaver, Black bear, Fox, Mink, Moose, Otter, Squirrels, Snowshoe hare, Whitetail deer and Wolves are at home here - and Bald eagle, Loon, and Pileated Woodpecker sightings are common. The property is heavily wooded with mixed Hardwoods, Balsam, and Spruce. There is good seasonal road access via the Peshekee Grade Road, and there is a easement road that runs diagonally south-westerly through the property. Come backpack, camp, canoe, cross-country ski, fish, hike, hunt or snoeshoe - there's something for every outdoor enthusiast here!
