In the 1970s, the family chose to share this idyllic location with the Colleton County community, offering an informal outdoor public space where neighbors were welcome to spend the day fishing or relaxing for the nominal fee of per person, based on the honor system. Local churches utilized this inspiring and tranquil setting for parish gatherings, and sunrise services.
