There are many local resources to assist with living in the wilderness and I am happy to share my experience as my personal cabin isn't too far up the road. San Luis or Fort Garland are small towns in the valley offering gas stations, groceries, dollar stores, local eateries, liquor stores, and dispensaries. For more city amenities, Alamosa is the go-to in the San Luis Valley. Here they have big box stores, restaurants, medical facilities, schools, airport, entertainment, and just about everything a town of 10k people can offer. Visiting the other towns littering the valley opens your eyes to the history and diversity of the San Luis Valley. Some say this is where Colorado started, the oldest town of San Luis being right down the road proves it. The big cities of Pueblo, Colorado Springs and Denver are a few hours over the pass.
