The New River gorge was created millions of years ago as the spring fed New River poured out of what is now the Bankhead National Forest and carved gigantic bluffs out of the rock. Water and erosion formed Bald Rock, the crown of Natural Bridge, with 1000’s of square feet of exposed rock surface forming a plateau on top of the 100 ft. sheer bluffs to the water below.
An ancient sea covering the area nearly 200 million year ago formed our dry cave, a similar formation to the Iron Ore bridge formed at the adjacent Natural Bridge Park. There are variety of ferns and Canadian Hemlocks on the property, dating back to the last ice age. Wild game abounds.
