Sweetgum control has been conducted on all quail woods so they are clean and growing native grass. Nearly 200 acres of the woodlands are both upland and bottomland hardwood. Most of these woodlands are middle aged regeneration of oak, poplar, and gum. These hardwood woodlands also harbor a quality turkey population and the new longleaf pine plantations support several coveys of wild bobwhites. An additional hunting lease of 231 acres protects the northwestern boundary. Soil types consist of Conecuh fine sandy loam, Lucy Luverne sandy loam, Arents and Blanton loamy sands. These soils have an excellent timber site index for loblolly and long leaf pine plantations and wildlife habitats.
