All areas of the ranch are accessible by internal roadways and two bridges across the Petaca. The old Chili Line Railroad bed still remains on the western side of the ranch. The ranch is served by Tres Piedras Mutual Domestic Water and also has a private well on the south end. Access to some of the states best hunting, fishing, recreational rock climbing and snowmobiling is within minutes of Taos 3 Rocks Ranch. The ranch is part of the Game & Fish E-Program and receives an annual elk tag for Unit 50. The ranch is also part of the Taos Plateau. The nearest full service town is Taos, New Mexico, approximately 30 miles to the southeast and Alamosa Colorado, approximately 70 miles to the north. 30 miles south of the ranch is the famous Ojo Caliente Hot Springs and 70 miles south is Santa Fe. The ranch is located at 8,000 ft. elevation on the Western edge of the high prairie that lies on the mesas west of the Rio Grande. Clean, clear, dry air, mild summers and brisk winters define the Taos 3 Rocks Ranch's vibrant four-season climate. The most accessible public lands are the BLM lands bordering the ranch on the Northeast corner. The remainder of the lands that border the ranch are privately owned. The majority of the vegetation consists of a mixture of native grasses and sagebrush with a scattering of Pinon, Juniper and Ponderosa Pine trees. The south well is very productive and appears to have substantial underground water flow. Agriculture is, in itself, a great use for the ranch within the restraints of annual precipitation.
