Farm Description

STALLING'S HOBBY RANCH Entering the Stalling’s Hobby Ranch ushers you into a piece of historical wonder. Owned by only two families, with some of the original outbuildings still on the property, this gorgeous home and it’s exquisite surroundings are truly one of a kind. The current owner has tastefully incorporated items previously collected by her father into the decor of this classy, vintage home. The timeless treasures and rich history woven throughout the property make it not only a wonderful family legacy but a magnificent work of art. This charming home is nestled in-between rolling hills on three sides; the view out of every window includes Aspen groves and rocky outcroppings. South west of the home lie the Sangre de Cristo mountain range and the view of the peaks from the large front windows and brand new, wrap around porch is magnificent. The Home Entering the home, you find yourself in a cozy sitting room bursting with character. With original floors from the early 1900’s and wood repurposed from original ranch buildings, there is a story to be told around every corner. Stepping into the great room, an addition to the original ranch house, one simply has to stop and take in the grandeur of the room. Vaulted ceilings and extra-large wooden beams make a fantastic first impression. The ceiling fans, sky lights and large windows allow for natural lighting and all the comforts one would hope for, along with spectacular views of the Sangres. Porch access from this room is very convenient and the large fireplace, which was hand done using rocks from the property, adds to the remarkable space.  Most furnishings are included with the home and they are each unique. The master bedroom is intimate and cozy, with windows looking out at the lovely, rolling hills. The attached sitting room is sunny and inviting and the master bath is equipped with tile floors, storage and hanging space, cupboard space underneath the sink and a conveniently separated toilet room. Heading upstairs from the sitting room, there are two adorably vintage bedrooms, a bathroom and fantastic storage area. This space has been fully utilized and is ideal for hosting family and friends. Back on the main level, each visitor is drawn towards the kitchen and dining room. This part of the original ranch house is absolutely remarkable. White walls and the white-washed tongue and groove ceiling give a clean, open feel to this space. The large windows offer an awe-inspiring view. The original chimney and wood floors, which have been repainted a fantastic, light green color, add an enormous amount of charm to an area where friends and family will naturally congregate. Appliances are all coordinated and up to date. Bar stools fit nicely at the center island, which includes the sink, allowing for conversation and laughter to include those washing dishes and preparing food. The drawers and cupboards offer an abundance of storage space and the cabinets are equipped with pull out drawers for easy access. The dining room is well-lit and ideal for the gathering of family or hosting of dinner guests. There is also access to the wash room which is fully equipped with impressive storage space and shelving, the hot water heater and a separate bathroom with utility sink. You can head out to the porch from the dining room, taking your morning coffee to enjoy on the rustic porch swing. This deck was just redone with brand new pine boards and top rail, stained with Sikkens and made to last. The posts are original and topped with brand new, decorative post crowns, giving it a very polished look. The south west side of the deck is very large and absolutely ideal for entertaining groups of friends and families. The new concrete pad on the far side also makes this porch wheel chair accessible. The metal roof and log siding have been very well maintained. This quality home, both inside and out, is picturesque and inviting from every single angle. Right outside the house is a fire pit, where countless summer evenings could be spent. The Outbuildings The 2 car garage (end-to-end) is 39ft x 14ft and has concrete walls and floor. There is a 15ft x8.5ft ‘cubby’ in the back of the garage, equipped with convenient storage space and shelving. Attached to the garage is a shop area measuring 30ft x 14 ft. which is accessible through a regular door and also a garage door, making this space ideal for pulling in equipment for repairs or storage. The upstairs of this garage/shop is an amazing area, perfect for the kids’ game room or a ‘man cave’ complete with electricity to plug in a refrigerator for snacks and drinks. This 28ft x 39ft. room could easily be turned into another living space, as well. The attached deck boasts stunning views in each direction. Some History Two of the original outbuildings remain on the property and are an incredible glimpse into the past. The barn has a refinished concrete floor and excellent, enclosed storage space. The original settlers lived in a barn with the animals until they finished building the home. The site of this barn is still visible and an amazing piece of history. Inside the home is the original ranch sign, a priceless heirloom. The current owners’ family bought this property from Lila Hobby in the late 70’s. At that time Lila was living by herself and leasing the land to nearby ranchers. She had a potato garden in the back and at one time even had a potato cellar where she stored her crops. Lila and her husband, Aaron Hobby bought the ranch in the early 1900’s. Lila had been a schoolteacher in the nearby town of Florence when she first met Aaron, a lanky cowboy. After she and Aaron settled into 1693 CR 358 she continued to teach school in a little one room school house that is still standing approximately two miles NNE on our county road.   In an effort to preserve the history, the Hobby family put a fence around it. Years after Lila sold the ranch it was not uncommon for her and her grandkids to stop by our ranch for a visit where she loved to sit on the porch and share stories.  From what we understand, the single room log cabin that exists on our place today is where Lila and her husband Aaron first lived on the property.  Just imagine what that must have been like without electricity.  Depending on each other at 10,000 feet in the beauty of our high mountain valley. The Land 190 ACRES: This property is unique in many ways, including the lack of HOA and covenants. The Stalling’s Hobby Ranch is private and secluded but because of it’s location right off of county maintained access, it is also convenient. Bursting with potential for outdoor recreation, hiking and horse-back riding; the possibilities for exploration and inspiration are endless. This property is a game management unit. Hunting opportunities are literally right outside your back door and the property is situated right in ‘elk paradise’ where these magnificent animals roam freely throughout the meadow. Other types of wildlife, as well as wild flowers and the wide open spaces and fresh, mountain air make this a dream come true; quite possibly a ‘human paradise’ as well.  This slice of rustic, western history could be your opportunity to truly live off the land, raise your own grass-fed beef and let your horses roam. This is an invitation to come and breathe deeper, hunt, explore, or simply swing on the porch and let the mountain air refresh and renew your spirit. This beautiful, well-kept home and serene acreage is a rare and fantastic treasure that you will never want to leave. Hunting GMU 84
