Farm Description

Upper Michigan Cabin with Acreage for Sale! This Michigan 1,000+ Square Foot Chalet Style Home/Cabin is on a 95 Acre wooded property that is located in Grant Township, in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. This Township lies along the eastern side of the Keweenaw Peninsula, which juts far out into pristine Lake Superior. The property can be found about 6+ miles north of the unincorporated community of Gay. This historical village originated when the Mohawk Mining Company built a stamping mill there in 1898, and was soon followed by the Wolverine Mining Company. The town was named after Joseph E. Gay, long associated with copper mining in the area. (Today, only the large smokestack and the ruins from the stamp mill remain.) From this location you have access to some of the most scenic natural and historic areas of the State that provide activites to enjoy during every season of the year. The property is very near Betsy Bay on Lake Superior, where Finnish fishermen maintained a fishing outpost. These commercial fishermen fished along the shores of the Keweenaw Bay,and sometimes headed out into Lake Superior as far as Huron Island in the southeast, Manitou Island at the tip of the Keweenaw, "Kaukapakki" - located northeast of the Keweenaw in the middle of Lake Superior somewhere near to the Canadian border, and to Isle Royale. (Some of the best known Finnish fishermen in the Keweenaw include the Jarve family of Betsy.) In Betsy the local children were all taught in a one-room schoolhouse beside the Jarve homestead. The beaches going north out of Betsy along this side of the Keweenaw Peninsula are all sand dunes, and there are picturesque spots that can be visited. You will pass Brunette Park, Oliver Bay, Point Isabelle, and South Point and the Mendota (Bete Grise) Lighthouse on your way to Lac LaBelle. From there you can head to Mt. Bohemia Ski Hill (for Extreme Back Country Skiing), Copper Harbor, Brockway Mountain, and then follow the western side of the Keweenaw Peninsula down to Agate Harbor, Eagle Harbor, Great Sand Bay, Eagle River, and return via Mohawk-Gay Road back to the Village of Gay. If you are a nature lover, there is lots of wildlife in the area with sightings of bald eagles, sandhill cranes, beaver, geese, ducks, and deer very common. Access to the Keweenaw-Gay Trail, a Multi-Use State Trail, for hiking, biking, snowmobiling, and horseback riding is located just to the north of Traverse Bay. There’s something to do in every direction! The property being offered for sale features the Winters Creek which flows into Lake Superior. It meanders through the property and has a bridge crossing it. The wooded areas have a mixture of Balsam fir, Black ash, Black spruce, Eastern arborvitae, Eastern hemlock, Quaking aspen, Red maple, and Tamarack, with some areas of peat wetland. These features create excellent habitat - Whitetail deer, Black bear and Grouse are at home here. There are trails and Ground Blinds for your hunting adventures! The Cabin has 1,003 Square Foot of Living Space, and was built in 2014. It has beautiful tongue-and-groove pine walls and hickory and laminate flooring. The Main Living Area has 763 Square Feet, and includes an Open-Concept living/Dining/Kitchen Area with cathedral ceilings reaching to the 24-Foot ridge. This Living Area has a decorative free-standing wood stove, that heats the building. An 11x13 First-Floor Bedroom, Full Bath and 6 x 9 Mechanical-Storage Room completes this level. Up a set of log railed stairs, is a Balcony/Loft Bedroom which has a view to the lower level. Outside there are two decks (8x28 and 8x20) at each end of the home for outdoor entertainment. A 24 x 40 steel Pole Barn provides lots of storage for vehicles and recreational equipment. Set up your appointment to view this newer Chalet Style Home/Cabin near Lake Superior today!
